The Journey of the Tropical Hardwood You will have in Your House and Furniture
Everything begins in the forest.
Here, in one of the most biodiverse forests of the world, we can find more than 600 different species
of trees, some of them still to classify.
In an healthy forest, in average, one big tree useful for construction or furniture use,
per hectare per year, is falling, and became available for to be cut and utilized without harming the environment... in a perfect
world.
Due to stupid rules that limits enormously the possibility for poor farmer to obtain the permits for to collect their fallen
trees, the vast majority of the precious hardwood produced by the forest, remain there rooting without any use and incrementing, with
the release of the carbon in it trapped during, sometime, hundred of years of growth, the Earth heating.
Despite this problem that
create a lot of problems to the local farmers, we can, sometime, obtain to permits for to go to recover these jewels from its death,
and transform them in precious elements of some carved door or flooring boards, laminated glued beams ( we produced the first ever
made in Costa Rica ), arched louvered windows, sliding-folding doors or a wardrobe studied for the tropic, a set of outdoor chairs
and table, custom tailored sofa and couches, and so on, until your fantasy can go......
In our Workshop we use Italian quality machines, for to obtain the precision of the elements that allow us to build complicated forms
and obtain a perfect union amongst the separate pieces of a beautiful Hardwood floor or as in the curved frames you see here
below, that have to fit perfectly with doors and windows, without in site shaving and adjusting that would harm the integrity of the
final cover of bi-component Polyurethane varnish we use for to protect the pieces from the agressive environment.
Folding-Sliding doors and windows are the tougher challenge, here around, due to the aggressive environment that join the marine
salty mist to the heaviest rains of Central America, creating possible problems to the hardware and, consequently, to the operativity
of the doors and windows panels.
We use only first grade aluminum or heavy galvanized hardware from Germany and Italy, and, brass hinges,
assuring a smooth, durable functioning.
Not only the Wood destined to fine furniture or Artistic Carved doors receive the care of our skilled workers, but every piece of
wood that will be part of structural elements, doesn't matter if under the form of Glued Laminated Wood Beams , Reticular Trusses
or Round Posts and Beams for rustic roofing, is shaved by machine or by hand, sanded and treated with wood preserver for to
defend it from bugs and fungi, prior of its installation and later treated again and finished once in its place.
All our Furniture are treated with several coats of Polyurethane Varnish for interior or exterior use, glued with aliphatic resin,
polyurethane glue or high quality white glue, for long, safe utilization.
In some situation, where the outdoor use is the
regular environment, we encourage the use of Linseed or teak oil too.
